16.02.2012: SABAM Judgment (C-360/10) "All the components of a smart and proportionate protection of IPR in the digital era"
Marielle Gallo has welcomed the judgment of the Court of Justice in the SABAM case that was made public on Thursday 16 February. "No general filtering of internet, effective and proportionate rules: all the components of a smart protection of IPR in the digital era".
"The European Union and the Member States cannot tolerate general filtering of the Internet. With this judgment, the Court of Justice has demonstrated that European legal order contains all the necessary guarantees to protect data protection and fundamental rights", declared the MEP.
"This decision confirms the responsible position of the EPP Group: rules also exist online. Copyright should be enforced in a proportionate and effective way because it is a source of innovation and job creation in the EU", concluded Marielle Gallo.
